Title: Why join professional organizations

Abstract: Life is in a busy, fast-paced world with many things on everyone's plate. Professional organizations are joined, so there is an opportunity to attend and present at conferences. It is also a line that can be added to a resume or CV. What other motivation is there for joining and volunteering with professional organizations, especially as young people? There are many organizations besides the large and well-known ones. There are many organizations available that are focused on an area or idea that may be of interest. More than one area of interest is often found that ignites interest and involvement with. There are sections of the ASA, regional chapters of the ASA, and independent organizations like the Caucus for Women in Statistics and Data Science. Personal experiences taking an active role in organizations and the value gained are shared.
