Abstract: A simple linear regression model for random elements taking values in a space of star-shaped sets is introduced. The least-squares estimators are derived, and their consistency and asymptotic behavior are examined both theoretically and by means of simulation studies. The model is subsequently applied to a real-world problem involving tree trunk growth. Specifically, a publicly available dataset of tree trunk cross-sections is analyzed. The cross-sections are modeled as star-shaped sets, and the proposed model is employed to explore potential linear relationships between the growth ring of a given year and those formed in earlier years.
