Title: A functional data analysis approach for income distribution and poverty analysis Authors:  Federico Crescenzi - University of Tuscia (Italy)
Gianni Betti - University of Siena (Italy) [presenting]
Abstract: Functional data analysis is shown to be a useful tool for investigating features of income distribution. By assuming a finite population approach and a fuzzy approach to poverty measurement, where each individual has a degree of belonging to a poverty set defined by a membership function, it is demonstrated that functional data analysis can be employed to model the membership function and unlock the potential of more complex poverty indicators over the entire income distribution domain.
