Title: Measuring multidimensional deprivation at the local level through survey-to-survey imputation

Abstract: A comprehensive set of indicators of deprivation and well-being is developed to identify the most disadvantaged territories and population groups in terms of poverty and inequality. The analysis is based on data from the MYPEOPLE survey, conducted in July 2024 on approximately 10,000 households using a mixed CAWI-CATI methodology across three Italian regions: Lombardy, Tuscany, and Campania. Since total household disposable income is collected in brackets in the survey, a survey-to-survey imputation approach is implemented to recover a continuous income distribution. Specifically, income bracket information from MYPEOPLE is combined with detailed income data from EU-SILC. Fuzzy measures of deprivation based on income are constructed using the Integrated Fuzzy and Relative approach. This framework allows for a nuanced assessment of poverty intensity and facilitates comparisons across population groups. An in-depth focus on Lombardy examines patterns of socio-economic vulnerability in Inner Areas as defined by the National Strategy for Inner Areas. The analysis adopts a multidimensional perspective, encompassing both economic and material conditions as well as access to essential services. It further integrates objective indicators with subjective evaluations, capturing individuals' self-assessed socio-economic conditions.
