Title: Green order first: Matching and dispatching under sustainability-aware demand

Abstract: The aim is to examine dispatching and matching policies in on-demand service platforms with sustainability-aware demand. A double-sided queueing network is developed with green and non-green orders and couriers, where green-preferred orders incur penalties when matched with non-green couriers. The platform faces a trade-off between operational efficiency and sustainability compliance. Two immediate matching policies are analyzed: a Greedy policy prioritizing speed and a Green-Priority policy enforcing green compatibility. Using Markov chain analysis, stationary performance metrics such as matching rates, queue lengths, mismatch rates, and expected revenue are characterized, and it is shown that the revenue indifference curve is linear in symmetric markets but nonlinear under asymmetry. A delayed Batch-Ranking policy is further introduced that allows limited waiting and cost-aware matching. Agent-based simulations show that delayed matching can substantially reduce delivery time, emissions, and overall cost. The results provide insights into when Green-Priority dispatching is optimal and how controlled delays improve sustainability outcomes without sacrificing long-run efficiency.
