Title: Assessing the reliability of longitudinal electronic dental records through agreement of periodontal markers

Abstract: Electronic dental records (EDR) are increasingly used to study oral diseases, yet their measurement reliability is not well assessed. one aspect of EDR reliability is evaluated by treating probing pocket depth (PPD) as an ordinal measure and comparing site-level PPD recorded at two exams within 120 days in 1,742 Canadian Armed Forces members. using a generalized linear mixed-effects model with nested random effects, kappa for agreement and weighted kappa for association are estimated. agreement was fair, and association was moderate, with lower values in males, younger individuals, and tobacco nonusers. these findings suggest EDR can support epidemiologic research, though caution is warranted.
