Abstract: Function-on-scalar nonparametric regression is introduced where the response is a random function taking values in the space of symmetric positive-definite matrices, which is motivated by analyzing diffusion tensor imaging data. The log-Euclidean metric is employed on that matrix space, and a partially linear additive model is applied. A statistical testing problem is also considered on linear coefficients. Simulation studies and the analysis of diffusion tensor imaging data show that the estimator has good numerical performance.
