Abstract: In recent years, poverty-related social issues in Japan have been receiving increasing attention, particularly over the past decade. Addressing this significant challenge requires reliable documentation to understand poverty conditions in smaller demographic domains better. We estimated the poverty rate for each of Japan's prefectures using official Japanese microdata and an arcsine-transformed area-level model. Furthermore, we modified a theoretical framework for the arcsine-transformed area-level model, which also takes into account the sampling design.
