Abstract: Order-of-addition experiments are becoming increasingly important in recent scientific research. These experiments investigate how the sequence of component addition influences outcomes. Most existing order-of-addition designs predominantly rely on approximate models, which restricts their flexibility. To address this limitation, a novel framework is proposed for selecting order-of-addition designs without any prespecified model. The proposed framework is designed to search order-of-addition designs that are uniformly distributed on the component-position space, thereby capturing the complexity of order-of-addition experiments. Specifically, a general definition of the uniformity criterion is provided for order-of-addition experiments. Its unified computational expression is developed, and two discrepancies are displayed as special cases to construct our proposed uniform position order-of-addition designs. Through simulation studies and practical examples, these proposed designs demonstrate superior model robustness and space-filling properties as compared to their counterparts.
