Title: Evidence on the functional interaction of age distribution and long-term economic growth
Authors: Samuel Rauhala - University of Turku (Finland) [presenting]
Abstract: Classical growth models emphasize technological progress and aggregate population growth as key drivers of long-term economic performance. However, these models often overlook the heterogeneity within populations, particularly the role of age structure. The purpose is to investigate the relationship between age distribution and long-term economic growth (over 10 to 20 years) in a multi-country panel dataset using a functional data analysis approach. Results underscore the importance of demographic composition in shaping macroeconomic trajectories and inform policy debates on aging populations and labor force dynamics.
