Title: The effect of foreign direct investments on CO2 emissions, evidence from Asia Authors:  Alessandro Spelta - University of Pavia (Italy) [presenting]
Abstract: The nexus between foreign direct investments (FDI) and CO2 emissions in the Asian continent. Optimal transport theory and satellite data are leveraged to investigate the dynamics of the joint and conditional distributions of FDI and CO2 emissions of Asian countries and regions and to forecast the future patterns of such variables. The approach avoids assuming a specific parametric form for density distributions, providing a flexible representation of the relationships between FDI and CO2 emissions. Findings highlight the emergence of a positive relationship between FDI and CO2 emissions, while forecasts result in a generally increasing trend of the aggregate FDI and CO2. Different patterns of the predicted FDI and CO2 emissions are instead observed for a pool of selected countries.
