Abstract: The impact of photovoltaic (PV) self-consumption on electricity consumption patterns in Spain is investigated. With the growing adoption of PV systems, households and industries are increasingly generating their own electricity, leading to shifts in overall consumption behaviors and grid demand. The analysis utilizes public data from the Spanish Transmission System Operator (TSO), examining changes in electricity usage, peak demand reduction, and the alignment of consumption with solar radiation. Findings indicate that PV self-consumption significantly alters daily and seasonal electricity consumption patterns and reduces dependency on the grid. These insights are valuable for policymakers and energy providers in designing strategies to optimize grid operations and support the transition towards renewable energy sources.
