Abstract: Motivated by a real case study on monitoring ship operating conditions and CO2 emissions using navigation data from a roll-on/roll-off passenger cruise ship, functional control charts are proposed for monitoring multivariate profiles (i.e., multivariate functional data), which describe ship operating conditions at each voyage, and for prediction of the total CO2 emissions through scalar-on-function regression. The first contribution is the integration of functional regression into statistical process control techniques in a unified framework. Moreover, the proposed framework is suitably capable of making predictions and giving indications about possible anomalies in real-time, i.e., before the end of a voyage.
