Title: Using funding and collaborations with statistics departments to build interest in statistics education
Authors: Tim Jacobbe - Southern Methodist University (United States) [presenting]
Abstract: Statistics Education programs at the University of Florida and now Southern Methodist University have been built through collaborations with statistics departments. Masters students in statistics who are interested in and passionate about the teaching and learning of statistics at the secondary or undergraduate levels need opportunities other than pursuing careers as research statisticians. Students who are interested in statistics education are able to contribute to the growing need for faculty and researchers that are interested in the teaching and learning of statistics. The doctoral student experience as well as discuss positions graduates of the program have filled over the years will be detailed. There is a clear need and an exciting opportunity to bridge programs across department of statistics and schools of education.
