Abstract: Earthquakes modelling is a challenging topic, whose comprehension is needed for the improvement of the understanding of the phenomenon and its dynamics over time and space. After a brief survey on some of the available literature, a preliminary investigation of the probability distributions best-fitting inter-arrival times and strength of the earthquakes is performed. The model search is tailored to identify the desirable properties for the target distributions, entailing effective interpretation of parameters for geo-physical explanation. The ultimate goal is to jointly model the inter-arrival times between subsequent earthquakes and the corresponding magnitude while accounting for location on the sphere within a directional perspective.
