Title: Spatio-temporal modeling of urban data: A case study in Philadelphia

Abstract: Throughout history there have been many perspectives on the approach to planning cities, with a notable clash between dense, organically-formed urban spaces and suburban space planned around the automobile. Urban data analysis has been recently improved through publicly available high resolution data, allowing us to empirically investigate urban design principles of the past half-century. We are currently focussed on the analysis of local neighborhood features, including crime, land use, zoning, business and population demographics. We will discuss one particular direction: spatial modeling of the change in safety over the past decade. The city of Philadelphia is an interesting case study, with its rapid urban development in the last decade.
