The ability to collect and store data on previously unimaginable scales has had a dramatic impact on a huge variety of fields within science and commerce. 'Big Data' present both substantial challenges, as well as exciting opportunities, for statisticians. The working group on high-dimensional statistics provides a forum for the exchange of ideas in order to exploit these opportunities to maximal effect.
