Title: Simulation and assessment of Subway Line 7 in Mexico City public transportation Authors:  Elias Arias Nava - Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) (Mexico) [presenting]
Abstract: Mexico City is a massive city with millions of people using public transportation every day. According to the latest census, more than 9 million people live in the metropolitan area. Public transportation is one of the government's most pressing commitments. Starting with the development and construction of the first subway line in 1969, Mexico has accumulated 226 kilometers of subway railroads distributed among 12 lines. The goal is to analyze and assess the problems of the subway: logistics, efficiency, capacity, waiting times, and overall capability to attend to all customers. Using system simulation methodology: problem formulation, setting of objectives, model conceptualization and data collection, model translation, verification and validation, experimental design, production runs and analysis, and documentation; statistically significant information was collected and analyzed in terms of the performance of the subway system. The database used as input parameters included information from one year, that is, the ride information of approximately 800 million passengers. Scheduling, distribution, and user decision-making when using the system are part of the solution and recommendations based on the quantitative results from the simulation output parameters.
