Title: Phylogenetic latent position models Authors:  Federico Pavone - Bocconi University (Italy) [presenting]
Abstract: The problem of learning the underlying structure responsible for the connectivity patterns in the human brain is considered. A population of networks representing the connections between brain regions is analyzed for a set of subjects. These networks are characterized by a multiresolution organization of the nodes, responsible for the connectivity. A phylogenetic latent position model is proposed, where the node latent positions are the realization of Brownian motions over a phylogenetic tree. The model reveals a tree organization of the brain regions coherent with known hemisphere and lobe partitions. Such a result uncovers new interesting possible clusterings of the brain regions at different levels of resolution.
