Abstract: The pursuit of efficiency has become a central objective of policy makers within health systems. Adopting a metafrontier framework on different health systems we account for unmeasured heterogeneity and technology gaps. Moreover, we consider the case of a directional distance function model for handling asymmetrically both desirable and undesirable outputs in the health care process. The above-mentioned technique has been implemented using a Bayesian procedure for heterogeneous set of world countries for the 1995-2013 period.
