Abstract: Comparative effectiveness research focuses on evaluations of treatment strategies in real-world settings. The use of Bayesian nonparametric models may help learn about characteristics and sources of variation that contribute to heterogeneities of treatment outcomes across a broad population of patients. We discuss the application of a Bayesian nonparametric model to data from a large ($\>$18,000 patients) randomized clinical trial involving community hospitals in the U.S. We also discuss an analysis that considers a registry of patients who did not participate in the clinical trial but who underwent the same procedures.
