Title: Model based geostatistics and decision making: A parasite tale Authors:  Claudio Fronterre - Lancaster University (United Kingdom) [presenting]

Abstract: Spatial analysis has increasingly become a valuable tool in the field of parasitic diseases. Particularly when disease prevalence is highly spatially heterogeneous, quantifying the spatial variability of disease risk and its uncertainty is crucial to inform disease control and elimination programmes. The complex framework that characterises several prevalence surveys often translates in a series of statistical challenges. Model based geostatistics can hugely help to address these issues. Lymphatic filariasis (LF) is one of the neglected tropical diseases that affect populations in sub-Saharan Africa. We present a semi-mechanistic geostatistical model to analyse LF surveys in west Africa conducted with different diagnostic tools.
