Abstract: Andresen's S-index is used widely by geographers, specifically in criminology literature. The S-index represents the percentage of spatial units that have similar spatial patterns in both point patterns and ranges from 0 to 1. The test is subjective in that it delineates spatial similarity and dissimilarity at $S = 0.8$ and $S = 0.5$ respectively. We propose a technique to remove this subjectively by using the second-order nature of the spatial data. Am improved, stronger concluding test is thus set up.
