Abstract: The problem of mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) in experimental crosses in the presence of polygenic effects will be discussed. Specifically, we will explain the phenomenon of so called ghost QTL and how it is related to the problem of hot-spots in expression QTL studies. We will also present a novel methodology based on mixed models which eliminates ghost QTL and allows for efficient identification of true QTL in the presence of polygenic effects
